7 Reasons Why Caffeine In Coffee is Hindering Your Well Being
Caffeine in coffee is one of the most commonly accepted addictive substances throughout the world. It is the most commonly used stimulant on planet Earth.
It has been reported that 90% of the adult population has been addicted to caffeine in some form or another at some point in their life. Compared to many other addictive substances, coffee is very easy to find, totally legal, and widely accepted socially. It is also, in most cases, very affordable.
So why would you want to give up drinking coffee? Well here are some of the side effects that you get with your favorite morning beverage:
1- Caffeine can hinder your sleep and cause insomnia.
2- Heart disease, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol are irritated by caffeine intake.
3- You may experience increased acid reflux and gastrointestinal irritation due to the highly acidic properties in coffee.
4- Caffeine increases stress on your nervous system.
5- It is highly addictive. You can quickly become dependent on caffeine to wake you up in the morning and without it you can become moody, depressed, and lethargic.
6- Caffeine can increase appetite so if you’re trying to lose weight your caffeine addiction can make weight loss much harder.
7- It can cause you to feel jittery. You may also experience rapid or irregular heartbeats.
If you tried to quit caffeine before and failed you may want to consider the steps below and see which method might work best for you.
Here are a few common ways that people choose to choose to quit drinking coffee:
Quit drinking coffee cold turkey-
This is the most difficult way to end your coffee addiction. Most people who quit drinking coffee in this manner experience severe headaches, low energy, difficulty concentrating, and may experience flu-type symptoms.
These withdrawal effects can begin 12 to 24 hours after you stop drinking caffeine and you may experience these awful side effects for a period of two days and up to two weeks. Although many people quit coffee this way, it is the most painful way to do it.
Slowly cut back over a long period of time-
Surprisingly this method seems to work pretty well — much better results than the “cold turkey” method. With this approach you slowly wean yourself off of coffee. If you usually have 6 cups of coffee a day begin reducing your intake by 1 cup per day for a week at a time. By week 5 or 6 you will be drinking only 1 cup of coffee per day and that way when you finally do quit drinking coffee the withdrawal symptoms will be much less severe or noticeable.
Replacing your coffee drink with healthier alternatives-
This has become the most effective method for quitting coffee with the least amount of drawbacks. You simply start by reducing your caffeine intake and replacing that caffeine intake with an herbal coffee substitute. It is not recommended that you “cold turkey” switch to an herbal coffee but rather you will mix regular coffee with herbal coffee. At first your ratio will contain a larger percentage of regular coffee and a smaller percentage of herbal coffee. However, as you continue with this method you will gradually add more herbal coffee and gradually wean yourself totally off of caffeinated coffee.
Herbal coffee is usually made up of a combination of herbs, grains, fruits and nuts. This mix is roasted similar to coffee beans. Then you simply grind it up and brew it the way you do with coffee. There are several brands available that taste very much like coffee.
This method helps with the emotional comfort aspect of enjoying a warm beverage every day. So you can get a delicious coffee tasting warm beverage every morning without experiencing any of the nasty side effects that caffeine in coffee can bring.
