Law of Attraction and 60 Days of Being a Yes Man 2009

Over the holidays I had the opportunity to watch the movie Yes Man and I recently completed the book by author Danny Wallace.  For those that are unfamiliar with the topic, the protagonists’ lives change once they “learn to say yes more.”  Does it really work?  law-of-attraction

2 January 2009

I was contacted about the Big Brother Big Sister Program during the holidays, but could not meet due to traveling conflicts.  Once they contacted me in January to revisit the idea I said Yes!  Great!  Now I’ve set a meeting to introduce myself to my potential “Little” for 10 January.

8 January 2009

Since I’m a Florida Gator fan, I was invited by several people to watch the Championship Bowl Game at a local restaurant.  Should I go?? Yes!  Did my choice help the Gators win??  hmmmm…

10 January 2009

The big day arrives and I meet my “Little!”  He’s six and extremely smart!  He wants to be an astronaut when he grows up. Can you believe that he’s been waiting over eighteen months to meet a “Big?”  We definitely need more male volunteers in the Atlanta area!

Week of 16 January 2009

Typical workweek.  Since I’m in sales, I always get invitations to lunches and networking events.  How can I say NO to that?  I can’t of course so this week does not count as it’s a part of the job.

17 January 2009

I attend my “Littles” basketball game at the Andrew Young YMCA.  I cannot remember being around sooo many kids and ALL of their energy!  Anyway, the Knicks (Little’s team) win with the score of 8-4 and I’m instantly hooked!  It’s a lot of fun watching the six year olds run up and down the court.  My Little introduces me to his team as his Big Brother!  Awesome!  law-of-attraction2

19 January 2009

My firm gets called in to interview for an upcoming project at the University of Florida.  They would like us to meet staff on Friday, 23 January and have a formal interview Monday 26 January.  With this short notice, flight costs are through the roof!  Should I drive instead?  Yes!

22 January 2009

On my drive to Gainesville, Florida I listen to “auto university.” (books/podcasts)  During the drive, I hear earth-shattering information from both Joel Osteen and Steve Pavlina.  If you haven’t heard their stuff before you need to immediately!  I pretty much said yes to ALL of their suggestions that day!

23 January 2009

My friend Stephanie gives me a call and asked would I like to see Sylvia Browne at the I Can Do It Conference April 2009 in Toronto.  Do I want to go and will I accept?  Yes!

23-25 January 2009

After meetings at the University of Florida, I spend the weekend with my twin sister and grandfather.  For those that don’t know me, my grandmother passed away in March 2008.  She and my grandfather had been married for more than 60 years!  They alwayes teased me that I needed to be in a relationship that at least lasted sixty months!  Anyway, it’s obvious he definitely misses his better half.  Will I spend more time with my grandfather?  Yes!

26 January 2009

I put in my two-weeks notice at the job notifying them of my decision to spend more time with my grandfather in Florida.  You thought I was kidding right?  :)

30 January 2009

This week flies by as it still doesn’t feel real that I’ve made such a HUGE life shift!  I still feel in my heart that I’ve made the right decision.  My grandfather means the world to me and I felt less than human since I wasn’t there when my grandmother passed.  I will not make that mistake again!

31 January 2009

At my Little’s basketball game, his mother invites me to attend a birthday party at her sister’s house next week.  Would I like to go?  Yes!

3 February 2009

At the birthday party, I meet tons of really nice people.  There were people from all walks of life there.  The energy in the house was full of love from each family member. I’m sure we would have never crossed paths had I not said yes to the invitation!

6 February 2009

It’s officially my last day at work!  Did this really happen?  In this recession/depression?  This is all I’ve known for the past seven years as I continued to climb the corporate ladder.  Luckily, since I didn’t leave on bad terms, my boss mentioned that “the door will be open should I decide to return.”  I did not expect that and thank her for the great experiences gained working with this company.

7 February 2009

After my Little’s basketball game, his coach invites me to a golf outing first thing Sunday morning.  He’s the Principal at my Little’s school and it would be a great opportunity to meet with some of the parents on the basketball team.  Would I be interested considering I am NEVER an early bird on Sunday?  Yes!  law-of-attraction3

8 February 2009

It turned out to be a good golf outing if I do say so myself. Note to self: Invest in more golf lessons?  Yes!  Anyway, after golf we ate lunch.  It was there that I learned the Principal used to be a college radio dj at Georgia State University.  He was one of the djs I used to listen to when I moved to Atlanta in the early ’90s.  He originally broke Outkast before they made it big in addition to tons of other national acts.  It was fun talking to the Principal because I spent a ton of time in school listening to college radio.  I was also invited to attend the Men’s Day event at my Little’s elementary school and talk about life in the business world.  Would this have happened had I turned down the golf outing?  hmmmm…

11 February 2009

The Men’s Day event was a success and I was able to visit my Little in his classroom.  I also sat with the first grade classes during lunch time.  This brought back flashbacks to when I used to teach second grade many years ago!  Awesome!  Can the day get any better than this?  Yes!

At 4pm I received an email inviting me to a Versace party being held in Atlanta tomorrow night.  Should I go?  Yes!

At 6pm I received a call from the Big Brother Big Sisters program stating I won an all-expense paid trip to the NBA All Star game in Phoenix!  Would I like to go?  C’mon!

At 8pm I attended a house warming party for a friend of mine in the city.  After the party, we stopped at the local pizzeria for a quick bite.  Who’s that sitting at the bar?  OMG!  It’s DJ Red Alert!  Red Alert is one of the legendary hip hop djs who practically influenced my tastes in all genres of music!  Should I buy him a drink?  Yes!

12 February 2009

It was a Versace party!!!  ;)

Weekend 13-16 February 2009

I had a great time at the NBA All Star weekend!  I met some celebrities and some really great people in Phoenix!  I have since been invited back out there to go in a hot air balloon and race atvs.  Would I like to go mid-March?  Yes!

22 February 2009

ASHA Massage ($25/hr: tell ‘em Hamza sent ya!) called and said my masseuse had to cancel my appointment and would I like to have a massage with Nicole?  By now you know the drill…  Nicole actually performed Neuro Muscular Therapy (NMT) on my torn achilles.  This had to be the best massage I’ve had in ages!

23 February 2009

Apparently, news has spread about my departure from the sales gig.  I’ve been contacted by a local business coach that would like to interview me about my latest experiences.  Should I go to this interview?  Yes!

The past two months of 2009 has been such a whirlwind and I must attribute it to me being open more to saying Yes!  Is it the Law of Attraction versus Yes Man or is it one in the same?  You be the judge, but I like where this is headed!
