What Can We Do To Cure Teenage Obesity?

In the United States exclusively, obesity has become an unbeatable epidemic. Hundreds of thousands of Americans perish every year because of obesity. Don’t become another statistic! Can we find ways to fight this before it becomes to late?  What if we attacked the issue earlier in life?  What can we do to cure teenage obesity?

Warning: What you are about to learn may outrage some people, but it needs to be said.

Many people suffer from being obese. It may result from a stocky build, slow metabolic process, or some other physical reason, but it is a fact of life for many people. They will likely fight with it their whole lives.

However, obesity is distinct. A very small percentage of obese people have medical grounds for their condition. The rest of them just cannot stop shoveling the food in long enough to see the results of their actions.

Have you ever been in a restaurant or at a party and watched an obviously obese person shoveling in the food and drinking a soda pop? Do they imagine the diet soda will make all that fat and calories vanish? It doesn’t work that way.

The following are the first steps of a very long and bumpy road to recovery. These steps can be implemented in your teenage years as well.  However, if you want to free yourself of obesity conclusively, you may want to immediately put the suggestions below into action before it is too late:

- Discontinue eating greasy foods! Potato chips, french fries, soda… you name it! Before you can recuperate from your problem, you have to acknowledge that you have one. And those fatty foods are indeed a key problem. If you feel that you absolutely must eat something, get some fresh fruit or vegetables. They not only carry the key nutrients that your body needs for good health, but some will really burn more calories that they replace.

- Check up with your physician. If you are more than fifty pounds overweight, only a fool would recommend any diet plan until you are medically authorised by your doctor. Your doctor can also notify you on the better programs to help you get started. This cannot be emphasized enough. Once you have eliminated the fattening foods, visit your doctor before going one step farther.

- In the worst case scenario, consider looking for a counselor. Is there a deep seated, subconscious reason for your eating disorder or are you just a pig that does not take into account what you put into your mouth? The responses may surprise you. Once you learn the reasons for your self destructive behavior, you will be better prepared to embrace them. If you cannot afford counseling, talk to a trusted friend or, if you are a spiritual person, perhaps someone at your church. They may not be able to diagnose your problem, but they can be there for you when you meet those bumps in the road to recovery.

Lastly, fighting teenage obesity is just a matter of active prevention and discipline. It is about forming a new, healthier habit. Would you preferably live the rest of your life spent, unhappy and heavy? Better yet, do you think it is time to get your act together and begin eating healthy? The decision is yours…
